Talladega National Forest
Camping,
horseback riding, hiking and other countless opportunities await outdoor
enthusiasts in the Talladega National Forest. The Forest covers more
than 200,00 acres and has two developed campsites, several primitive camping
areas and the Pinhoti Trail System. Whether you're planning an afternoon
picnic, a week on a remote trail, or an afternoon drive, you'll find it in
Cleburne County.
The
Talladega National Forest also has points of historical interest. The Creek
and Cherokee Indians made their home in the area and fought over boundary
lines between their tribes in the forest. Shoal Creek Church and its
adjoining cemetery are over 100 years old. While congregational meetings are
no longer held, the pine log church offers a peaceful respite near the
Pinhoti Trail.
